About the course
This unique, very successful course aims to create a realistic exam scenario environment, covering all essential core areas of the syllabus to improve your knowledge and examination technique. You will have the opportunity to see hundreds of examples of typical anatomy and common variants that you are expected to have mastered by the time you attempt the Part 1 FRCR exam.

Meet the faculty
Dr Dhivya M Paravasthu
Consultant Radiologist
Consultant Radiologist with special interest in Breast and abdominal imaging based in Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. She completed dual fellowships post CCT in Abdominal and Breast Imaging in UHN Toronto. She is Head of School in North-West School of Radiology and co-founded the FRCR Anatomy course, which has been running successfully since 2010. She won the award for Excellence in Medical Education at Consultant level in 2018.

Dr Gaurav Sundar
Consultant Interventional Radiologist
Consultant Interventional Radiologist based in NHS Lanarkshire, Scotland. Fellowship-trained vascular interventional radiologist with a sub-specialty interest in head and neck radiology. Previously Training Program Director for Interventional Radiology at Liverpool. Awarded the Frank Doyle Medal by the Royal College of Radiologists in 2014 on the basis of performance in the Final FRCR Part A Examination. He has co-organised the online FRCR anatomy course since 2021.

Dr John Curtis
Consultant Radiologist (retired)
Recently retired Consultant Radiologist at University Hospital Aintree (1997–2022), with interests in Chest Radiology, Emergency Radiology, and Medical Education. He founded the Aintree FRCR 2B Course in 2002, was Head of School Mersey Deanery 2008–17, and a Past President of the British Society of Emergency Radiology. He is particularly interested in online teaching and radiology video production. Twice winner of the JRF Trainer of the Year award (2014 & 2021) and recipient of the Royal College of Radiologists Gold Medal in 2017.

Dr Madhusudan Paravasthu
Consultant Cardiothoracic & General Radiologist
Consultant Cardiothoracic and General Radiologist at Aintree University Hospital, University Hospitals Liverpool Group. He completed dual fellowships post CCT in Cardiac and Thoracic Imaging in Toronto and has been a consultant for nearly ten years. Trust Speciality Training Lead for more than four years. Special interests include Cardiac imaging (CT and MRI), Thoracic imaging (lung cancer, ILD), CT-guided lung biopsies, and imaging in polytrauma.

Dr Finn D Begbie
Consultant Neuroradiologist
Consultant Neuroradiologist in Glasgow at the Institute of Neurological Sciences and Glasgow Royal Infirmary, specializing in tertiary neuroradiology, stroke and head and neck oncology imaging. In addition to his clinical roles, he is an Honorary Lecturer at the University of Glasgow and a former Learning Fellow for the Royal College of Radiologists. Current research interests include the use of fat suppression techniques in MRI for assessing marrow invasion in oral squamous cell carcinoma. He is a keen teacher of all things neuroimaging and is passionate about inspiring the next generation of neuroradiologists.

Dr Tim Strangeways
Radiology Registrar
Tim is a radiology registrar working in the Mersey region with an interest in musculoskeletal and chest imaging. He has a passion for teaching and enjoys helping trainees to prepare for their exams.
Dr Anu Kamalasanan
Consultant H&N and Paediatric Radiologist
Consultant Radiologist at NHS Lanarkshire with subspeciality interest in paediatric and ENT imaging. She completed her MBBS in 2005, followed by a period in the surgical field during which she obtained a Diploma in Head and Neck Surgery and MRCS (ENT). Transitioning to radiology, Dr Kamalasanan trained within the East of Scotland clinical radiology scheme, undertaking subspecialty training in paediatric and ENT radiology, attaining FRCR in 2017. She has subsequently worked as substantive consultant radiologist in NHS Tayside and NHS Lanarkshire.
Dr Seamus Culshaw
ST5 Radiology Trainee
ST5 radiology trainee with a subspecialist interest in head and neck, orbital, and dentomaxillofacial imaging. He teaches anatomy for the FRCR Part 1 examination and contributes to this annual virtual course as a speaker, focusing on anatomical variants and their clinical relevance. His teaching aims to simplify complex anatomy and highlight key patterns to support exam success and everyday radiology practice.
